Patricia Wright
Dr. Patricia Wright leads the Environmental Physiology Lab in the Dept. of Integrative Biology at the University of Guelph. Dr. Wright received her Hon. BSc. in Biology at McMaster University and her PhD in Zoology at the University of British Columbia. She was a Killam postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Biology at the University of Ottawa and later a Fogarty International Fellow at the National Institutes of Health (Bethesda MA) in the Kidney Lab.
Research in her lab focuses on comparative animal physiology, with a special emphasis on how aquatic animals respond to environmental change. She studies early life stages of fish and amphibians to understand developing mechanisms of respiration and osmoregulation. As well, she studies amphibious fish (eg. Mangrove killifish Kryptolebias marmoratus) to determine the variety of adaptations involved in moving between water and air. Research has also been conducted on aspects of osmoregulation and nitrogen waste excretion in aquaculture species.
Dr. Wright currently teaches Comparative Animal Physiology (ZOO*3200 and ZOO*3210)
